Company History

Jimmy Cosenza Sr. founded the Seal-Tite Roofing Company in 1946. He later moved the business to San Pablo Avenue in Berkeley in 1952 into the very same building where Nicholas Roofing is located today.

Jimmy Cosenza Jr. started roofing part time for his father’s Seal-Tite Roofing Company at age 17. He then graduated from high school and joined the United States army for 3 years. He returned to roofing while at the same time attending San Francisco State University. In 1976 Jimmy married Susan Love, a graduate of UC Berkeley. They started a family and Jimmy began a full time roofing career.

In 1981 Jimmy started Nicholas Roofing alongside his father’s Seal-Tite Roofing Company at the same Berkeley location. He named the company Nicholas after this 3 year old son. Seal-Tite Roofing eventually closed its doors and Jimmy Sr. passed away, leaving Nicholas Roofing as the only roofing company on San Pablo Avenue.

Nicholas Roofing is proud to support local sports teams and has had season tickets to the Oakland Raiders for the past 12 years and the Oakland A’s for the past 7 years.

Jimmy Cosenza (Owner)
Founded Nicholas Roofing in 1981
Jimmy was born in Berkeley and raised in Walnut Creek.
He has been happily married to his wife Sue for over 30 years. He enjoys music and likes to go to live shows. He is a big fan of classic cars from the 1960-1970s. One of Jimmy’s favorite hobbies is wine tasting. He has built a wine cellar under his home where he stores his collection. He is an avid pool player and has his own vintage table. He is currently a member in good standing with the Oakland Colombo Club.

Nick Cosenza
Joined Nicholas Roofing in 2002
Nick was born in Oakland and raised in Contra Costa County. He is the third generation of roofers to work out of the office on San Pablo Avenue alongside his father Jimmy. Nick’s job varies between handling the books, driving the dump truck, delivering samples, and pulling the permits.

Scott Dawson
Joined Nicholas Roofing in 2009
Scott has lived in Contra Costa County since he was 12 years old. He has been a family friend of the Cosenza’s since he was in 6th grade. Nick is the Godfather of his son. He currently works the phones at the Nicholas Roofing showroom.
